Selby Town 3-1 Eccleshill United
The feel-good factor is definitely back at Selby Town after Christian Fox guided his new-look team to tremendous victory over highly-fancied Eccleshill United.
Fox’s appointment in May drew a wave of optimism and it appears well-placed on the basis of the last two results. The two consecutive wins have certainly brought the smiles back.
To beat Eccleshill shows that Selby want to mean business this season.
Selby showed real character in the victory. They had survived an early scare when their superb debutant goalkeeper Gareth Dickinson bailed them out by saving a Marcus Edwards penalty.
Two very quick-fire goals after the interval put Selby in control with Tom Hullock hitting the opener before Brad Freer added the second.
Ben Hardy then popped up in the 53rd minute to hand Eccleshill a life line, after he received the ball on the right flank and cut in. He worked his way into the box and slammed a right footed shot into the far top corner, making it 2-1.
However, Selby were not to be denied and their key man Liam Flanagan netted the killer third goal with six minutes remaining.
Fantastic performance. There is still a lot to work on as Eccleshill were much the better side in the first half. Great to get the three points though.
