Brighouse Town 2-3 Tadcaster Albion
New Tadcaster Albion talisman Danny Frost snatched a victory out of the jaws of defeat for Tadcaster Albion against ten man Brighouse Town.
Brighouse found themselves two goals to the good inside the first six minutes after Jacob Buchanan and Aaron Martin found the net.
Ex-Taddy goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood was then shown a straight red card at the beginning of the second half which obviously swung the momentum in favour of Albion.
Conor Sellars converted from the penalty spot before Aiden Savory and Frost completed a spirited second half turnaround.
Taddy captain Andy Milne had the first sighting at goal in the basking Bank Holiday Brighouse sunshine sending a diving header wide of the mark.
Things soon went downhill for the Brewers and fast. A hopeful ball over the top by Lewis Riley lead to some miscommunication between defender Josh Barrett and goalkeeper Michael Ingham and Gabriel Johnson pounced on the hesitant defending to set up Buchanan for a tap-in.
Brighouse were overjoyed after just six minutes as Martin got away from his marker and simply headed in from a flat corner kick to double their lead.
And just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Tadcaster, they did as skipper Milne was caught by a nasty elbow from Tom Haigh leaving the defender in a heap on the floor.
After four minutes of treatment from physio Lucy Lendhill, Milne was replaced by Savory and has since been to hospital to treat the nasty cut received to the head.
The defining moment in the match came just three minutes into the second half when Brighouse keeper Hallwood was shown a straight red card.
Former teammates Tom Corner and Hallwood contested for the ball on a corner kick before the two clashed on the ground off the ball and after deliberation between the referee and the linesman, the goalkeeper was dismissed and a penalty was given.
Without a substitute goalkeeper, Iwan Heeley was the brave volunteer to go in between the sticks for Brighouse and his first job was to face a penalty.
Sellars had to wait an age for Heeley to be ready but it certainly didn’t faze him as he confidently brushed the spot kick into the roof of the net.
And all of a sudden it was game on and you could feel the pendulum swing towards the Brewers.
Following the red card, Taddy dominated the contest and it almost seemed inevitable in how it was going to end.
Chances were certainly flowing; Corner’s close range strike was well blocked before Frost’s willing running saw him beat the on-rushing Heeley to the ball but couldn’t hit the target with the goal open.
With twenty five minutes to go, Michael Morton and Simon Collins chanced their arm as Joel Dixon replaced Jason Mycoe which freed Savory up to operate as a front three alongside Corner and Frost.
It may have seemed inevitable where it was going but time was ticking by and Brighouse still led. 2-1.
The match was turned on its head in the space of sixty seconds as Taddy netted twice to go in front.
The equaliser came fourteen minutes from time as Savory leathered in his fourth goal of the season.
Josh Barrett deserves praise for started the move off by winning a dual, beating the next man to the ball before driving into the opposition’s half and playing it out wide to Frost.
Frost’s teasing low cross was actually missed at first by Savory, Corner then couldn’t turn goalwards, Sellars tried to scramble over the line before Savory pounced on the loose ball and smashed left-footed into the very top corner.
Then just a matter of seconds later, the travelling Taddy fans continued their jubilant celebrations as Corner showed great pace and composure to race down the left-hand side and coolly stroke a ball across goal with his weaker left-foot to Frost who clipped into the roof of the net, also with his weaker foot.
