Former Barnsley defender and Luke Potter is the new manager of Athersley Rec, an appointment which ends a week-long search to find Wayne Thompson’s replacement.
The very highly qualified coach has been the assistant manager to Richard Tracey at Ossett Albion for the past few years.
Potter played 19 times for Barnsley in the Football League before a serious injury ended his career.
Athersley’s statement said: “Luke comes with a good footballing background and has been assistant manager at Ossett Albion for four years and wants to take the next step up to manager.
“He is currently working at Barnsley FC Academy with the under 13’s, and has assured the Board that this will in no interfere with his appointment at Athersley.
“We have had a good response from interested parties for the job with some quality Managers/Coaches applying. We would like to thank all the unsuccessful applicants for their interest in the post and wish them well for the future.
“We hope that all the members of our club give a warm Rec welcome to Luke and help him settle in to his new role as quickly as possible.”
