Wright pledges faith in Bridge squad

Josh Wright has pledged his faith in his Worsbrough Bridge squad by insisting that there will be only a maximum of two further additions – if that.

By his own admission, Wright has ended up registering more players than he planned during pre-season.

But he says that the arrivals door is shutting very soon.

“100% I’ve used more players at this stage than I had wanted to,” Wright told Non League Yorkshire.

“It is now about trying to get a settled 14 in place and trying to bring some of the players from the successful under 19s side through.

“You can’t keep using player after player. I need to get a settled side. Today (the defeat to Dronfield) was the first time I haven’t changed anything apart from one player being unavailable.

“I won’t change much for the Yorkshire Amateur game (next week) either.

“There is one player I have been speaking to since July and he may be the only player we sign, unless there is unforeseen departures. We may be also a forward short, but we’ll see.

“We can’t keep mixing it up because it upsets the applecart.”

Wright went on record several times in pre-season saying that he wanted to have his squad in place by the middle of July.

He believed he had achieved that aim.

However, it was not to be and Wright said: “We had a bit of false hope at the end of July that our squad was completed.

“It clearly wasn’t after the Ollerton game because we were really poor, even though we could have snatched a point.

“It was clear that we needed to bring some new faces in.”
