Former Shaw Lane AFC defender Rhys Meynell has joined Worsbrough

Josh Wright has finally persuaded his old Barnsley comrade Rhys Meynell to sign for Worsbrough Bridge.

The vastly-experienced centre-back is the player who Wright said he had been speaking to since July in his interview with Non League Yorkshire on Monday.

The former Shaw Lane AFC, Stalybridge Celtic and Guiseley player is a massive signing for Worsbrough. He did play in a handful of fixtures at the end of last season.

Wright told Non League Yorkshire: “I’m delighted to bring him in.

“He will add bags of experience to the back line as well as in the dressing room.

“There has been months’ worth of chats with him, but it is brilliant to finally get him in and he will go straight in to the squad for Saturday.”

Meynell has picked the right week to sign for Worsbrough as they head to free-scoring Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday. His experience could be vital if gets on-the-pitch.
