As a Robbie Williams impersonator, Harrogate Railway player/manager Liam Gray is used to belting out ‘Let Me Entertain You’.

He did not expect his rebuilt Railway side to be following the mantra at such an extreme length though.

Railway have been involved in victories with score-lines as 4-3. 4-1 and 6-4, while also suffering 5-3, 5-3 3-2 defeats since the season started.

Spectators have been getting their money’s worth, and one of the most pleasing aspects of the high score-lines, Railway have shown a never-say-die attitude.

That said, Gray admitted that was missing from the midweek defeat to Barton Town.

“We’re definitely value for money,” Gray told Non League Yorkshire.

“The thing that was disappointing for me against Barton was when we have gone 1-0 down before, I have never seen our heads go down.

“I never saw it in pre-season or at the start of the season. It was a strange.

“We have quality and as people have seen we can score goals. In the first game of the season at Thackley, we kept coming back and a fighting spirit is what I want.”

Railway, who host Bottesford Town tomorrow, went down 3-2 to Barton Town. Railway trailed 3-0 with 15 minutes to go when they staged an attempted comeback.

Gray said his team deserved nothing.

“It wasn’t good enough all round, there’s no excuses,” he said.

“You can’t give teams a 3-0 head-start and then try and get it back because you’ve no chance in this league.

“The lads have been told. I’ve asked for a reaction.

“Prior to Barton’s first goal, we did have three chances from a yard out. If they had gone in, it is a different story, but they didn’t.

“The comeback was too little too late. Barton knew what they were doing, they slowed the game right down. I haven’t anything against that because we would have done the same.”
