Selby Town manager Christian Fox has done an outstanding job since May
Christian Fox firmly believes promotion is a “realistic” prospect for thriving Selby Town on the basis of their current form.
Selby have enjoyed an outstanding start to the season under their bright new manager Fox and the Robins sit in sixth after ten matches.
Fox has also been given reason to believe in a high finish because of recent heavy duty signings in Casey Stewart and Paul Hagreen who have both been superb for Selby.
“Everything is really positive and we have a good set of lads,” Fox told Non League Yorkshire.
“Everyone has a good attitude and they all have a never-say-die attitude.
“We have some talented players in the squad, along with some grafters so we have a good balance.
“Winning at Bolsover on a Wednesday night shows the character of the lads we have had because going somewhere like that on a midweek night is never easy.
“I don’t think we are far off from our squad being complete. Joe Dale is with us full-time now and there’s competition for places as well which we probably didn’t have at the start of the season.
“I said in the summer that we wanted to win promotion and I think that goal is realistic based on the squad we have at this moment.
“The chairman (Ralph Pearse) and the club has backed us. We have some quality players here and from what we have seen, we’re definitely good enough to be up there challenging come the end of the season.
“We’re aiming for the top two, you have to do. I don’t see the point in making the numbers up. Obviously you aim for the top two, but if the fall-back is the play-offs you take that in your first season.”
Selby host Nostell Miners Welfare today, a few days on from the 2-2 draw with Winterton Rangers.
Selby led 2-0 at one point, but the sending-off of Brad Freer after 30 minutes had a massive say.
“I thought we started the game really brightly and on the front foot,” Fox said.
“A couple of decisions didn’t go our way and we had a lad sent off after 30 minutes.
“It just killed us. Although we did bounce back really quickly and got another goal to go 2-0 up, but it was just a backs against the wall job from there on.
“The pressure just told in the end. We did well to limit them to two or three chances, but it was always going to be a tall order to hold out.
“Full credit to the lads though because we had ten men for 60 minutes and we got a point.”
