West Riding County Cup
Armthorpe Welfare have highlighted the desperate need for boundary changes after pulling out of the West Riding County Cup.
Armthorpe have decided to withdraw after being given an away tie at Silsden – a ridiculous 90 minute journey for what is meant to be local midweek competition.
Boundary changes have long been needed. Armthorpe are one of a few South Yorkshire clubs who are affiliated to the West Riding.
Another example of lunacy is Nostell Miners Welfare, who are right in the heart of Wakefield, coming under Sheffield & Hallamshire FA jurisdiction.
Armthorpe chairman Lee Carmody said: “The strategy around Armthorpe Welfare is for us to remain a very competitive football club. We relish the opportunity to showcase our football as often as possible so it is therefore with great regret that we have to announce our self imposed departure from the West Riding County Cup.”
“The decision to pull out of the competition was not made lightly. Following consultation with our playing squad, coaching staff and committee and in an attempt to balance the commitments of individuals and the club with our existing schedule and ambitions for the team, it has unfortunately been a necessary move.”
“We are committed to a successful league campaign and look forward to the challenges we face in the FA Vase and League Cup this season. We wish the remaining competitors all the best for their progression through the tournament.”
i read somewhere years ago that the Sheffield FA boundaries are 20 or 25 miles from Sheffield Town Hall, everything outside that boundary goes into the West Riding FA.
