Ossett Albion manager Dave Haley is excited by the ambition of the club’s new directors.

Albion chairman John Chidlaw has said that he is targeting the Football League and UEFA A License coach Haley, who works for Chidlaw’s Unita Football Academy, completely buys into the club’s aims.

For 12 years until last October, Haley was a leading coach at Huddersfield Town’s now defunct academy and he admits that the jobs with Unita and Ossett fit what he was looking for.

“There is great optimism around the place,” Haley told Non League Yorkshire.

“Through Unita and Ossett Albion we want to give players’ pathways, but one of our other aims is to progress up the leagues.

“We want to be a professional outfit in six or seven seasons’ time. That is John and mine’s dream. That’s why he has brought me on board, along with my qualifications and experience in the sport.

“I want to get back into professional football and John has given me this wonderful opportunity to try and do that.

“This time last year I got made redundant by Huddersfield Town so I was on a downer.

“I did wonder whether I would get back into the game, to tell the truth.

“I went and worked for Leeds United and then did various coaching jobs.

“I ended up going to America for three months to coach, but I was still looking for that opportunity to get back into Professional Football.”

Haley has taken charge of two matches so far since replacing Richard Tracey. His first win came courtesy of the last minute penalty in the clash with Radcliffe FC last week.

He now believes that lowly Albion will push on up the table.

“We brought in seven prior to the Radcliffe game because I felt the club needed new faces,” he said.

“Now we got a result so we can kick on and keep getting results then there is no reason why we can’t keep with the squad of players.

“If we think players aren’t performing then we will move them on, but we’re confident of shooting up the table with the lads we have got.”
