Darren Holmes admits Glasshoughton Welfare have not started the season in the way he and Lee Vigars expected.
Until the much-needed 3-1 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare on Wednesday night, Glasshoughton have entrenched in the bottom six following a series of poor results.
But Holmes is confident the tide will continue to turn in a positive way.
“It hasn’t gone to plan so far, it has been a poor start,” Holmes told Non League Yorkshire.
“We’re not playing well and we’re not clicking. I’m sure we will sort it as a group and we’ll get it together.
“But we have had a lot of games away from home so far and we have a lot of games-in-hand of some teams.
“So if we do get some points out of those games-in-hand, we’ll move nicely up the table and somewhere we ought to be.
“We should be mid-table at least. It is a tougher league this year anyway in the sense it is more evenly-matched across the board.”
Holmes, a former Nostell manager, was pleased with his side’s comeback win at Nostell.
“It was nice to get three points, but it wasn’t a great performance,” he said.
“Three points is three points. Things were a little better in the second half because we were poor in the first half.
“We created chances and we got the three points, that’s all what matters.”
Another pleasing aspect of the Nostell win was that talisman Ryan Poskitt got two goals.
“Yeah, the Showman got off the mark for the season which we’re over-the-moon about,” he said.
“I think he’ll be disappointed he didn’t get a hat-trick because there were a couple of chances that we would have normally expected him to finish.
“But the two goals will have boosted his confidence because he’s coming back from a long-off.”
Glasshoughton travel to Swallownest tomorrow.
