Selby Town 2-1 AFC Emley
Casey Stewart hit the winner as Selby Town staged a second half comeback to beat in-form AFC Emley.
A large crowd witnessed a good fast game and it was the visitors who were on top to start with and they tested Paul Hagreen in Selby’s goal to the limit.
After one good save the ball pin-balled all over a crowded area and was half cleared into the path of Matty Waller, who smashed a shot into the roof of the net, giving Hagreen little chance of stopping it.
Selby found it hard to stop Emley as they poured forward at pace unleashing shot after shot at the Selby rear guard.
Joe Dale and Liam Flanagan worked hard up the other end to try and get back in the game but they could not get a break through as the game flowed back and forth.
After half an hour a Flanagan free kick beat the keeper but hit the post then Charlie Clamp headed goal-wards only for Harry Stead to save on his line. The half finished with the visitors winning by the only goal.
Selby started the second half very rapidly and within three minutes they restored parity. Ben Lock raced down the right and crossed to the far post where Joe Dale met the ball and lashed in a full blooded volley, giving Stead no chance.
This fired up the Robins and their supporters and they poured on the pressure. Brad Freer forced Stead into a great save.
Soon after that Selby took the lead when Dale won the ball down the left and crossed for Stewart to steer the ball over Stead into the net.
A good start by The Robins and now they were flying. Selby kept pressing looking for a third but slowly the visitors themselves started to pin Selby back.
Lewis Dickinson had a shot well saved by Hagreen and with three minutes left Dickinson thought he had equalised but as he picked his shot out of the net he saw the assistant referee had flagged for offside.
Relief for Selby as they finished the half under enormous pressure. But they held on for a massive morale boosting win.
