Selby Town manager Christian Fox is having the last laugh on his critics who said his team was relegation fodder in pre-season

Christian Fox hopes Selby Town fans are “excited” by the club’s magnificent start to the season.

With an attractive playing style, Selby have won nine out of their 16 league games so far and they hold fifth place.

In the process, Fox’s men are providing excellent value for money as supporters are paying £1.55 per goal at home. Overall Selby have scored an incredible 43 league goals – and we’re still in October.

“I hope the supporters and spectators are excited and like the way we have been playing,” Fox told Non League Yorkshire.

“We like to get the ball forward and we like to entertain. I think that’s quite obvious.

“I hope the supporters are happy. The aim was always to get an exciting team together.

“It probably took a bit longer to come together because we didn’t have Joe Dale to begin with because he was playing cricket.

“He came in properly in late September and he’s the ground running with Flanno (Liam Flanagan).”

The decision to appoint Fox has proved to be a very shrewd one by chairman Ralph Pearse and his committee.

Fox had to deal with an array of keyboard warriors during pre-season, people who did not believe he was up to the job.

However, the former York City midfielder has had the last laugh and he admits the club have had an excellent platform to build from.

“It is definitely the best position that Selby have been at this stage of a season for a long time,” he said.

“We’re on 30 points now, whereas last season the club got 61 points by the end of the season.

“We’re halfway there at the end of October and we would have taken that at the start of the season.”

Selby visit Campion tomorrow.
