Eccleshill United climbed to fourth after two goals from Jonny Irving guided them to victory.

Twenty two seconds into the game Eccleshill almost made it 1-0 when Luke Harrop raced through on goal but he couldn’t keep his shot on target.

The away side then had another chance to go ahead after 8 minutes, Thomas Rose was one on one with Liam Copley but Rose’s shot was straight at the keeper.

Twenty five minutes in Welfare had a free kick 25 yard out from goal, Gary Collier took the free kick but unfortunately for Welfare, it didn’t dip in time and just went over.

Six minutes after that free kick, Steve Garner went on a central run and played in Morgan Brough but his shot at goal hit the side netting.

Wayne Brook then had a chance to make it 1-0 to Welfare 10 minutes before half time after Eccleshill’s keeper, Dominic Smith, rushed out of goal to clear the ball but it wasn’t a good clearance leading to Brook picking up the ball 40 yard out, attempting a long range shot as Smith was well out of his goal but his shot went well wide.

Eccleshill’s danger man Irving then went down in the box a minute before half time, Eccleshill players and management claimed for a penalty but the referee was having none of it.

In the 54th minute Eccleshill had a corner which was floated into the box by Charlie Flaherty. Welfare didn’t manage to get the corner cleared and Anthony Brown volleyed straight at Copley but, although he saved well with his stomach, unfortunately Irving got on the end of the loose ball and made it 1-0 to Eccleshill.

Irving netted his second goal of the game in the 71st minute with a nice finish into the bottom corner, there was nothing Copley could do about it.

In the 69th minute it was almost 3-0 as Eccleshill put the ball into the back of the net but Jonny Irving was offside.
