Glasshoughton Welfare 2-2 Hallam
Andy Horbury scored twice for Glasshoughton
Ten man Glasshoughton Welfare did very well to gain a point from the 2-2 draw, arguably deserving all three.
A second half Andy Horbury brace seemed to have set Welfare up for victory but Hallam were able to escape with a point.
The home team looked good in the opening stages with Ryan Poskitt hitting an effort just wide and Conor Glavin seeing an effort scrambled of the goal line.
Welfare’s stand in goalkeeper Tom Carr brilliantly palmed away a 22nd minute Mitchell Dunne penalty and shortly after he made another good low save from a deflected shot.
At the other end Andrew Sneath saved well at his near post from a Rob Oldham free-kick but welfare were under pressure 20 minutes from the break when Poskitt was red carded after reacting to a horrible challenge on himself
Welfare took the lead on 54 minutes when Andy McManus headed a free kick back across goal and Horbury lashed the ball home.
The in-form Welfare striker notched his second 6 minutes later after being set up by the overlapping Oldham.
Within a minute Hallam were back in it after poor defending on the Welfare right. A cross was met by Richard Tootle and Carr could only palm the ball into the net.
Sneath made another excellent save from a Glavin free kick before Hallam equalised again. A cross was hit in and Dunne prodded home from six yards.

“Mixed emotions at the end of the game tonight. In normal circumstances when you go down to 10 men with just under an hour to play and with the score level at 0-0 you’d be more than happy to take a point.
“But to then go 2-0 up at home and get pegged back it suddenly feels like 2 points dropped. Our boys were first class again tonight. We settled the quicker of the two sides and put a lot of pressure on Hallam in the opening quarter.
“They came back at us and Tom Carr pulled off a superb penalty save to keep the scores level. We lost Ryan Poskitt just before the break after the referee showed a straight red for retaliation.
“What he failed to see was the initial blatant foul on Ryan which if he had the second incident wouldn’t of occurred and we’d of had he full quota for the 90 mins.
“At half time we spoke about keeping our shape, two solid banks of four and make it really hard for Hallam to break us down. But within 20 minutes of the second period, a brace from Andy Horbury seemed to settle the tie in our favour.
“Again, little mistakes in key areas has proved our downfall and we’ve let the lead slip. There were plenty of tired bodies in our changing room afterwards but the effort and commitment was superb from 1-14. We now welcome FC Bolsover down on Saturday and a repeat of tonight’s performance will see us go close to taking maximum points.”
