FA Vase
Vaughan Redford scored an unbelievable hat-trick as Pontefract Collieries miraculously won 4-2 at Hall Road Rangers after extra-time in the second round tie.
Hall Road had appeared to be sailing through after Josh Batty and Chris Spinks both scored from two very quick-moving first half moves.
It was Kane Reece who brought Ponte back from the dead with a close range finish with 20 minutes to go.
But it appeared it wasn’t enough for the Colls as the game ticked over into injury-time. Desperate tactics were deployed as goalkeeper Ryan Musselwhite was pushed forward for what became an almighty scramble – ending with Redford taking the tie to extra-time.
Buoyant Colls, now on top, won the contest in the additional 30 minutes with Redford completing a treble.
The historic victory means Pontefract have gone further than ever before in the Vase – another major achievement by Craig Parry and Craig Rouse whose splendid work at Beechnut Lane has not received the kind of praise it should have in the past 18 months.
Despite a heroic effort, brave Knaresborough Town were beaten by a late goal in their 2-1 defeat at Northern League giants North Shields. Blaine Hobson got Knaresborough’s goal.
