Disability Football training takes place at Nostell Miners Welfare on a Friday night
Nostell Miners Welfare are going to be hosting the trials for the Mencap GB European Championships football team in January.
Mencap GB will be using the wonderful facilities at Crofton Community Centre when they cast their eye over hopeful players, who all must have a learning disability and must be playing for a team.
Players are invited for trials. It is not an open trials event.
The European Championships are held every summer in Geneva in Switzerland.
Nostell chairman Kevin Allsop said: “In my view, hosting the trials puts Nostell Miners Welfare and Crofton Community Centre on the map in terms of Disability Football.
“I’m delighted that Mencap have chosen to use our fantastic centre for such a prestigious event.
“Our club is clearly heading in the right direction. Our new first team management have made great strides in one week, our Disability Football team is steadily growing and we are now going to be hosting a major event.
“I’d also like to think that the trials will also help us drive the Disability team even further forward.”
Pontefract Pirates chairman and Mencap GB coach Trevor Waddington has played a lead role in the choice of venue.
Nostell’s Disability Team was launched in September and is moving nicely along in just over two months.
NLY Community Sport and Nostell coaches Connor Rollinson and James Grayson, who are also the lead coaches for the well-established Pontefract Pirates, said: “It is great news from our perspective.
“The trials show the kind of opportunities that will potentially be available to players who want to come and play for Nostell, as well as Pontefract.
“We coach a lot of lads at Pontefract who have been to Geneva and played for GB and they all say that it was a fantastic experience and that their confidence levels grew massively after going over.”
The Nostell Miners Welfare Disability team train every Friday at the Crofton Community Centre (6pm until 7pm).
