The Showman Ryan Poskitt has decided to leave Glasshoughton Welfare and become the new player/assistant manager at Nostell Miners Welfare.
He will act as key conduit on-and-off-the-pitch for joint managers Jason Dodsworth and Simon Houghton.
But the decision to leave Glasshoughton has weighed heavily on Poskitt’s mind and he has paid tribute to the club he served for nearly two years. However, he felt joining Nostell was an opportunity he could not turn down.
“It is with great sadness that I have decided to leave Glasshoughton at this time of the season,” Poskitt told Non League Yorkshire.
“I have really enjoyed my time with Glasshoughton and would like to thank Jon Miles the chairman, Frank (MacLachlan), Bob (Miles), both Garry’s (Willis and Mollon), George (Jackson) and so on for welcoming me every time I walk through the door. It’s a great club and I wish them all the very best for the future.
“I’d also like to wish Lee (Vigars), Daz (Holmes) and all the lads the best of luck for the rest of the season, bar January 6th (when Nostell visit Glasshoughton). I really hope they make the play-offs. I have enjoyed helping them improve on the pitch but feel it is time for a new challenge and have decided to part company.
“A great personal opportunity has arisen for me at Nostell, getting involved with two good friends of mine, Simon Houghton and Jason Dodsworth and moving to a rejuvenated Nostell.
“I feel that this is an opportunity I have to take or I’ll regret what might have been. My aim is to help this club with the great facilities it already has in place, get back to where they belong and beyond.
“I will be involved along side Simon and Jason in helping build the squad, but most importantly hoping to bring in the quality thats required to get them up that league table.
“I will continue to play as long as I possible can and I still feel I have a lot to offer on the pitch as well as off it and I cannot wait to get stuck in.”
Over at the Crofton Community Centre, there is great delight and Houghton told Non League Yorkshire: “He’s managed on a Sunday so management is obviously something he’s been moving towards.
“It fits for us. As joint managers, there might be times when myself and Jase may disagree on something. That’s when Ryan offers a third voice.
“He’s a good lad and I’ve had him at Pontefract and Glasshoughton so I know what he can do. He’s a fantastic addition as a player and assistant manager.
“I’m absolutely buzzing that we have got him.”
Striker Poskitt has been a key figure for Glasshoughton since joining two years ago, and leaves as their second top goal-scorer this season.
His final appearance (and possibly touch) for Glasshoughton ended on an extremely high note as he hit unbelievable 40-yard screamer into the top corner during injury-time of the win over Eccleshill United ten days ago.
