Frickley Athletic 2-1 Stocksbridge Park Steels
Captain Gavin Allott’s last gasp header saw off local rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels and propelled Frickley Athletic up to third.
A draw had been on the cards. Frickley had taken a first half lead. In-form striker Jacob Hazel was given too much room on the edge of the penalty area, allowing the striker to powerfully hit a decent effort past David Reay.
Stocksbridge mounted their comeback in the second half. Initially veteran goalkeeper and assistant John Stancliffe, in for the injured Seb Malkowski, kept them at bay – with his magnificent save from a goal-bound Joe Lumsden header being a major highlight.
The Steels did level as ex-Stocksbridge man Richard Patterson’s foul on Scott Ruthven won them a penalty – coolly converted by Rory Coleman.
In the end, Allott had the last word – powerfully heading home Ben Algar’s corner at the near post.
