Eccleshill deserved all 3 points – Regan

Toolstation NCEL Division One

Eccleshill United manager Sean Regan

Sean Regan was delighted with Eccleshill United’s victory at Nostell Miners Welfare, considering his side were trialling a new system.

Regan felt his side were worthy of the three points from the 2-1 win – earned thanks to Luke Harrop’s late penalty. Nostell finished the game with nine men as Liam Owen and Lee Swift were sent off.

“Yeah I think we deserved it,” Regan told Non League Yorkshire.

“You have to look at it and forget about players being sent off. We tweaked things at half-time and we put them on the back-foot straightaway.

“That’s the type of team we are and we created enough chances in the second half to win the game.

“It was unfortunate for them to lose a couple of players, but we fancied it in the second half and their goalkeeper made a number of great saves. We just need to start turning up at the races earlier.

“We had Chris Lever and Antony Brown missing. Browny’s ill and Lever is injured so straightaway that’s two of our focal points out.

“It didn’t worry me, it was interesting because that’s the first time we have played with that shape and at the same time it gave other lads the chance to show what they can.”
