Conor Glavin’s first half hat-trick pushed Glasshoughton Welfare to a 4-1 victory over Dronfield Town and to within two points of the play-offs.
The win underlines Glasshoughton’s top six credentials as Dronfield have been on a fantastic run. And when you consider the disastrous start Welfare made to the start, it certainly was a good win.
Horrendous defending in the opening 60 seconds enabled Dronfield danger man Mark Fereday to open the scoring with a long range lob from distance.
But instead of collapsing, Glavin powerfully headed home Alex Marsh’s corner to level matters.
The midfielder then scored a penalty to place his side in front.
A well-taken free kick on the stroke of half-time completed his treble.
Glavin also spurned the chance to score a fourth as a late penalty was saved. The spot kick was not wasted as Ryan Ferguson followed up to score from the rebound.
Swallownest stormed to a 4-1 win over East Yorkshire Carnegie. Lloyd Gelsthorpe, Jason Short, Nathan Morritt and Richard Williams scored.
