Toolstation NCEL Division One
Selby Town’s assault on returning to the Premier Division for the first time since 2012 has hit another bump as the West Riding County Cup final has been placed on an inconvenient for them.
Their contest with Farsley Celtic will be played at Fleet Lane on Tuesday 17th April – the final week of the NCEL season. It means the home league game with Brigg Town will have to be moved, despite Selby having no more free days.
Christian Fox’s men are already playing Saturday-Tuesday-Thursday for the rest of the campaign – a situation that could de-rail their promotion bid.
The timing of the final also spoils what should be a special occasion for the Robins, who last reached the final in 1993 – ironically they faced play-offs rivals Glasshoughton Welfare on that occasion.
The news of the date has been greeted with shock as many expected it to be played after 28th April to ease mounting fixture congestion – caused by the unprecedented weather in the past five weeks.
