Stocksbridge Park Steels coach Lee Thompson has hailed his 16-year-old Declan Eratt-Thompson after the youngster made two late substitute appearances for the Bracken Moor-club.

His first in the clash at Kidsgrove Athletic last Wednesday was an emotional moment for Thompson Senior as his son has worked extremely hard to gain the opportunity having broken a fibula last July.

The midfielder or right-back is also currently on trial at a Football League club.

Former Boston United talisman Thompson told Non League Yorkshire: “I’m really proud of him and I hope he has a big future in front of him.

“He worked his socks off to get himself fit. He’s shown unbelievable desire and determination to get to where he is, and I must also thank Shaun Handisides as he has played a massive part in his rehabilitation.

“Declan played and trained with us all pre-season and then got injured. He got himself fit, but the league wouldn’t allow us to register him until he was 16 on March 10th.

“The Bedworth game then called off so he had to wait a bit longer, but when he came on against Kidsgrove it was worth the wait. He should be really proud of himself.”
