Play-offs chasing Welfare widen lead

Toolstation NCEL Division One

Ollerton Town 1-4 Glasshoughton Welfare

Key man Tom Carr could potentially miss the play-offs semi-final if Glasshoughton get there, after being sent off in the 4-1 win at Ollerton

Ten man Glasshoughton Welfare took a massive stride towards clinching a play-offs spot with an excellent away win.

Tom Carr and Andy Horbury found the net and there was also a double for Ryan Ferguson.

The only downside is that key man Carr was sent off, meaning he could potentially be suspended for the play-offs semi-final, should Welfare make it.

Welfare are now five points clear in sixth place, but Hallam have three games-in-hand. Selby Town also remain a threat.

Crucially Glasshoughton have the points in the bag after successfully navigating their way through a potentially tricky fixture.

Ferguson opened the scoring before Carr smashed home a trademark free kick. Carr then saw red after kicking out at Ollerton’s Liam Cooper.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Glasshoughton were able to effectively put the game to bed on the stroke of half-time. Horbury got the goal from a counter-attack.

A Gavin King penalty reduced the arrears on the hour mark. Ferguson rounded off the scoring in the final five minutes with a tap-in.
