Calan and Connor Rollinson have been praised by their respective managers ahead of the ‘Show Your Support for Luce’ game between Worsbrough Bridge and Glasshoughton Welfare at Park Road tomorrow night.
Weather-permitting, the brothers will finally get to duel on-the-pitch and hopefully raise lots of money for Leukaemia UK in the name of their “Mam” Lucille, who has been battling acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) since October. The Rollinson family also hope to aware awareness of AML symptoms.
Worsbrough manager Lee Morris told Non League Yorkshire: “I think the lads have been magnificent since October.
“I don’t know how they have done it? They are both great lads, great characters and I think their mum will be very proud of them.
“I love Calan. He is the life and soul of our dressing room. He is a pleasure to manage and I hope he stays for next season. I’m really proud of him. Every-time he pulls on a Worsbrough shirt he runs through brick walls. The lads love him.
“I hope lots of money is raised. All the lads are having a whip round for the cause because his family deserve it.”
The brothers played together at Worsbrough last season, but Connor moved back to his old club Glasshoughton Welfare in July.
Glasshoughton joint manager Lee Vigars, who played with Calan and Connor’s dad Craig at Wakefield City in the 1990s, told NLY: “Connor has thrown himself into his football since October and he is ultra consistent. He’s very versatile, can play right-back, centre-midfield, right-midfield.
“He never lets you down, he’s Mr Reliable. Football has been like an escape for him or a release for him and he’s admitted that himself.”
The warm-up t-shirts (emblazoned with ‘Showing Our Support For Luce’ on) and collection buckets have been in storage since February and are ready to be finally used.
National law firm Irwin Mitchell have donated a Hotel Chocolat selection box for the raffle. People are welcome to donate further prizes.
