Nostell Miners Welfare 0-0 Worsbrough Bridge

It was the tale of heroic goalkeeping as Worsbrough stopper Aiden Tyas and Nostell’s stand-in goalkeeper Joe Thornton played important roles in the goal-less draw.
The point was more useful for Worsbrough, who took another step towards safety, than Nostell who have done enough in their successful survival bid. The draw also sealed a rare milestone for the Barnsley-based club.
The four consecutive draws is the best unbeaten run Worsbrough have had since the fantastic days under club legend Chris Hilton. Bridge last went four or more games unbeaten was in the final throes of the Hilton days when they won six and drew two during March 2014.
Morris still has a long way to go to be talked about in the same way as Hilton, but he is definitely on the right lines. The former Buxton cult hero has a bunch of local lads working their socks off – just like current Stocksbridge boss did during his superb four-years at Park Road.
Apart from one comedy moment and a major chance for Nostell, there was little to talk about half-time. Jack Owen had been denied by Tyas and Adam Knight saw his rebound effort cleared off the line.
In the heavy rain, the game livened up in the second half. Tyas, playing against his former club, pulled out a save from his top draw to prevent Billy Mole’s volley from crashing into the top corner.
Worsbrough weathered the storm and went onto have two chances from which they should have scored from.
Joe Dungworth raced through one-on-one and went face-to-face with Thornton. Thornton heroically managed to push him slightly out wide, but Dungworth was still faced with an easy open goal finish from 12 yards. The large following from Worsbrough raised the roof with a massive cheer, but looked on in shock when they realised the striker had hit the side-netting.
With Nostell’s defence all at sea, talisman Ben Grech-Brooksbank then blazed wide after breaking clear.
That was the kick up the backside Nostell needed and they weren’t further troubled. Tyas then once again came up trumps with a remarkable double save in a scramble.
A draw was probably a fair result.
