Next week marks the first anniversary of Pontefract Pirates Juniors and what a first year it has been.
The Pirates Juniors have grown from having no players to having 11 in just 12 months. NLY Community Sport coaches James Grayson and Connor Rollinson have overseen the development of the Pirates Junior, a major section of the club which is for adults and children with disabilities and learning difficulties.
The Pirates are regularly competing in the West Riding Ability Counts Junior League. They also won bronze at the Bradford City Annual Tournament last September.
James Grayson said: “We’re really pleased with how the Pirates Juniors has developed since last April. We have come a long way in terms of numbers, but the hard work does stop because we want to grow and grow.
“We want to recruit more players, and it is clear why people come to us. The Pirates has proven track record, not just for providing life-changing opportunities such as the Special Olympics and the Mencap European Championships.
“We also known for turning people into more confidence people when they have been with us over a long period of time.”
The Pirates Juniors train most Sundays at Pontefract Collieries between 10am and 11.15am.
