Toolstation NCEL Division One
Rossington Main 1-5 Nostell Miners Welfare
Ambitious Nostell Miners Welfare found their shooting boots to finish the season in exactly the powerful way they want to start the next one.
Liam Owen got two and he was joined by Liam Radford, Jack Owen and Adam Knight on the score-sheet.
The dream finish for Simon Houghton and Jason Dodsworth’s men could have been inspired by the fact that free-scoring Pontefract Collieries lent Nostell use of their mini-bus for the game.
The five-star win may also be the perfect swansong for The Showman Ryan Poskitt. Poskitt has previously said that it was his plan to hang up his boots at the end of this season, ending a glorious career in the NCEL.
The Showman started and played a vital role in the victory.
Radford got them started with a ninth minute lob before the younger Owen headed home soon after.
Radford supplied Liam Owen straight after half-time. His brother found the net on the hour mark.
Lee Holmes pulled a goal back for Rossington before Knight scored in the dying minutes after Sam Fry’s effort was blocked.
Is this sign of things to come for Nostell? Dodsworth and Houghton have done a magnificent job since taking over Crofton Community Centre by comfortably guiding them away from relegation danger. Victories like this bode well for a promotion push next season with a stronger and really powerful squad.
