Eccleshill United 2-4 Yorkshire Amateur
Ambitious Yorkshire Amateur have won promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in their history after victory in the ultimate winner takes all battle at Eccleshill United.
Two goals from Fernando Moke and great strikes from Ash Flynn and Jason St Juste paved the path to the top flight for the Ammers who also had Leon Henry.
The Ammers have not quite done it the way main sponsor Andy Kendall-Jones wanted at the start of the season. He wanted them to canter to the title. However, they are up and it is for the likes of Phil Harding and others who have dragged the club out of the gutter since arriving in 2012.
The sky is surely now the limit.
Promotion is also the end of a frustrating few years for Flynn, who endured disappointment after disappointment with AFC Emley.
The Ammers, who written off ten games ago, held their nerve. Seven years ago they were in the same position on the last day during Paul Lines’ fabulous season in charge. However, a narrow defeat to Askern Villa cost them.
This time they did not make the same mistake. Moke settled the nerves with a fantastic curling strike.
The Ammers were then in dreamland as Flynn went through and doubled the lead. A looping effort from St Juste added the third and it wasn’t even half-time at this point.
Before the interval a Antony Brown penalty gave the Eagles hope – more came straight in the 51st minute as Leon Henry was shown a second yellow card.
However, the Ammers stayed on task and another brilliant effort Moke sealed their passage to their promised land.
Another penalty from Brown further reduced the arrears, but it was too late for Eccleshill, who now play Shirebrook Town in the play-offs.
