Ricardo appoints new number two

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Barton Town manager Dave Ricardo

Barton Town manager Dave Ricardo has appointed former Bridlington Town and Scarborough Athletic midfielder James Bennett as his new assistant.

Bennett replaces the ex-Bridlington manager Gary Allanson, who helped Ricardo steer Barton away from relegation danger in such an emphatic manner.

Ricardo said: “I am pleased to confirm James Bennett as Barton Town’s Assistant Manager for the coming season. James is someone I’ve known for many years and brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to the club.

“He is currently completing his UEFA A license and along with his coaching ability James’ communication with the players will be first class. His pedigree from his playing days is there for all to see but his passion for developing his coaching skills and management qualities is an area in which Barton Town will reap the rewards.

“The squad from last season has an unbelievably high level of U21 players and at times the match day squad including up to 14 of those. James’ experience Coaching Hull City youth teams and being in a lead position at Bishop Burton College will help develop those players and bring in the best of the young players from the north and south bank.

“Pre-season will be a positive environment ensuring that the players are engaged throughout and making sure we hit the ground running for the start of the season.”
