NLY Community Sport will be working in partnership with Inspiring healthy lifestyles to run Disability Football sessions for adults at Selby Leisure Centre.
The sessions, aimed at building confidence and improving social skills for those with disabilities and learning difficulties, run every Wednesday between 6pm and 7pm on the all-weather pitch and we are looking for new participants.
James said: “Myself and Connor were thrilled to be approached by Inspiring healthy lifestyles and within a few minutes into the conversation with Dani, it was clear that this is a fantastic opportunity with massive potential.
“The facilities at Selby Leisure Centre are absolutely fantastic and the sessions could really grow.
“What is also important is that the values that myself and Connor pride ourselves on completely match those of Dani’s and Inspiring healthy lifestyles.
“NLY Community Sport has achieved a lot since last September, such as the remarkable story of Nostell’s Callum Deary getting picked for the Mencap GB team, and we feel there will be more success and opportunities to come for participants across all our sessions.”
Selby Wellbeing manager Dani Penney said: “Inspiring healthy lifestyles has three core values: innovate; collaborate and enrich. We put local community groups at the heart of everything we do.
“With that in mind we’re really proud to have collaborated with NLY Community Sport to implement a new disability football team in Selby. We have listened to the feedback from local residents which suggests there is a need for more disability sport in the area.
“The innovation shown by NLY Community Sport in their existing groups has allowed individual’s to excel in confidence, social skills and technique which is exactly what we would like to replicate in Selby.
“We hope to enrich lives through the provision of disability sport in our fantastic facilities at Selby Leisure Centre and are really excited to ‘kick’ things off!”
The cost is just £3 a session and the minimum age is 16.
NLY Community Sport also currently works in partnership with Pontefract Pirates and Nostell Miners Welfare, running Disability Football teams for adults and juniors.
It also runs a Disability Juniors team in Barnsley called the South Yorkshire Superheroes.
