Action man Gary Collier once again proved to be the Jack of all Trades after playing a major role in Selby Town’s latest pre-season scalp.

Collier is proving to be such a hero in pre-season that they’ll soon be selling dolls of him down Selby Town Centre.

His influence in the victory did not just extend to his playing performance as he also acted as player/manager for the day. Inspirational boss Christian Fox was unavailable along with assistant Jonny Bruce. Player/coach Reuben Pearse was presiding over a wedding so that left Collier to take the mantle, just a few days after scoring the sensational winner against Tadcaster Albion.

Selby have already beaten higher league sides Pickering Town, Goole AFC and Tadcaster Albion so it was unsurprising that Maltby were swept away.

Sam Cable was a real live-wire for Selby as he repeatedly caused Maltby problems. He hit the crossbar with a spectacular effort before scoring in the 24th minute after a one-or-two with Charlie Clamp.

Cable would also see a goal disallowed because of offside.

Collier headed home his goal after the interval.
