Grant Black, one of Non League’s brightest young managers, was back making headlines in Yorkshire after masterminding Belper Town’s 6-1 victory at Worsbrough Bridge.
Non League Yorkshire’s 2016/17 manager of the year Black, one of greatest Ossett Town managers ever, outwitted his fellow Buxton legend Lee Morris, who is now in charge of Worsbrough.
Black’s reign at Ossett was full of chapters with tales of victory despite severe adversity and his latest win was no different as Worsbrough took a shock third minute lead through the in-form A Trialist.
His Belper side is filled with Yorkshire-based NL players including midfielder Rikki Paylor, Nathan Curtis, Jake Ellam, Marcus Day and talented youngster Cameron Clark and they soon got the visitors in a winning position.
Anton Daniels, Curtis and Day got the goals as Belper led 3-1 at the break.
Curtis, Jake Sturgess and Dylan Garrett sealed Belper’s win by the hour mark.
Worsbrough can’t be disappointed with the result as their performance against a decent Evo Stik side was good.
Morris’ plan to turn Worsbrough into a swashbuckling attacking appears to be coming together. Despite playing a team two leagues higher, Bridge were not afraid to play out from the back.
Aiden Tyas, one of the top young goalkeepers in the NCEL, was brave and reliable as always. Although the score-line was high, he still made a lot of great saves.
Midfielder Enos Innocent and captain Jack Wilson were solid in midfield. Wilson, in particular showed Terry Butcher characteristics after carrying on despite taking a nasty knock to his lethal right leg.
Upfront Jack Mawson was a force to be reckoned during aerial battles.
Calan Rollinson showed flair, tenacity and quality with a number of dangerous maundering runs down from his favoured right-back position. Even when an attack broke down, he raced back numerous times and made some amazing last ditch blocks.
The signs are good and it all bodes well for the season begins in eight days at Harworth Colliery before clashes with Campion and Nostell Miners Welfare.
