Prodigal son Mark Simpson predictably scored the opener as Garforth Town recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Penistone Church at the Bannister Prentice Community Stadium.
Garforth were fairly fortunate as Ian Richards’ Penistone missed a few chances in the early stages.
Simpson, who joins a terrifying front-line that will surely become a three with Devonte Morton and Curtly Martin-Wyatt when the latter is fully fit, grabbed the headlines during his first game back after returning from Worksop Town.
He got in behind Penistone’s defence on the hour mark and lobbed Church goalkeeper Adam Rhodes from the edge of the box to open the scoring.
Morton and Niah Payne sealed Garforth’s win in the closing stages to make the score-line flattering from their perspective.
Kyle Wordsworth scored the decisive goal in stoppage time as Athersley Rec won 2-1 at Barton Town.
The Rec were leading through Jamie Moxon when Wordsworth sealed it. Donald Chimalilo did pull one back for Barton soon after, but it was too late for Dave Ricardo’s men.
Danny Frost scored in Maltby Main’s 2-1 defeat to Bottesford Town.
Thackley and Hall Road Rangers battled out a goal-less draw at Dennyfield.
