Toolstation NCEL Division One
Selby Town 4-2 Ollerton Town
Liam Flanagan scored twice as Selby Town got their opponent’s net bulging multiple times again.
Christian Fox’s swash-bucklers have a reputation for scoring lots of goals, but they haven’t struck more than twice since beating Ollerton in mid-August.
The first goal came against the run of play in the 21st minute. The Robins had a free kick on their left, which was half cleared, allowing the ball to be returned into the penalty box. It looked like the low cross should have been dealt with, but the ball found Liam Neal at the back post, and he made no mistake to give Selby the lead.
Both teams were reduced to ten men close to half-time after a melee which saw Selby’s Will Ramsay and the visitors’ Josh Brentnall sent off. Ollerton’s physio also exited the proceedings after manhandling Selby’s diminutive assistant manager Jonny Bruce.
Joe Dale, back from suspension was becoming more influential in the second half, and a good run and pass from him found Sam Cable who shot goalwards. The shot was not going in, but Liam Flanagan slid in on the far post. The Ollerton defence, claimed that the ball had been cleared off the line, but the assistant referee signalled that the ball had crossed the line.
Ollerton pulled a goal back through Gavin King, but Selby were never going to let their lead slip. Magic man Dale crossed for electric Sam Cable who smashed home a tremendous volley to add the third.
Flanagan added the fourth before King scored a late consolation for Ollerton.
