Young Jack Mawson was the hero for Worsbrough
Jack Mawson’s first half winner earned Worsbrough Bridge their third straight victory and continued their incredible start to the season.
Bridge, whose budget is non-existence when compared with the rest of their top six rivals, are now joint third on 31 points with Grimsby Borough, Nostell Miners Welfare and Christian Fox’s Selby Town.
Worsbrough’s season so far has certainly been swash-buckling as Lee Morris’ men have been brave and fearless – taking the whole league by surprise in the process.
His side have already secured more four league wins than the whole last season and one more victory will take them past last season’s points tally.
Two victories will also secure their highest number of league wins in a campaign since 2014 – the final year of the great Chris Hilton era.
Their latest conquest was a battling 2-1 win over Shirebrook Town at Park Road.
Robbie Savage gave the visitors the lead, but Worsbrough hit back through their captain Scott Batty before talented young striker Mawson made himself the hero.
Nostell were desperately unlucky in their League Cup third round 4-3 defeat to Handsworth Parramore.
Simon Houghton and Jason Dodsworth’s men were leading 3-1 through Joe Wood, Danny Critchlow and Jack Owen. That was until Ollie Fearon, who had scored earlier, netted along with Jake Currie (2).
