Aiden Tyas is to be Glasshoughton Welfare’s goalkeeper for the new season.
Tyas, rated as one of the best goalkeepers in Toolstation NCEL Division One, made his first appearance on a team-sheet for Glasshoughton in the 2-1 friendly victory over Rothwell Town on Tuesday night.
The young stopper is best known for his association with Worsbrough Bridge, who he has represented many times across at least two stints under managers such as Lee Morris and Josh Wright. He also has solid NCEL experience from spells with Parkgate and Nostell Miners Welfare.
Glasshoughton have always prided themselves on having quality between the sticks and Tyas follows a long line of decent stoppers like Bruce Grobbelaar, Mat Zaniewski, Paul Hagreen, Josh Archer and Ben Saynor, among others.
Glasshoughton have also retained Craig Tonkinson, Sam Pashley, young Matt Cunliffe, Nathan Perks and stalwart Adam Walsh. The full list is yet to be announced.
