Defender Steers joins Penistone rebuild

Jack Steers has joined Penistone Church

Jack Steers is the stand-out signing as Ian Richards rebuilds last season’s runners-up Penistone Church’s squad.

The imposing former Hemsworth Miners Welfare centre-back is back in the Toolsation NCEL after a season with AFC Mansfield. He is joined at Church by his old Shaw Lane Aquaforce team-mate Danny Barlow, the attacking dynamo who has been a major part of Penistone’s successes in the last few years.

Also signing for Penistone is striker Shaun Mundy (Worsbrough) who scored a few goals for Worsbrough at the back end of last season after joining from Harworth Colliery.

A lot of the familiar faces, many of whom have been with Penistone since their Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League or Division One all remain – notably the likes of James Young, Scott Whittington, Andy Ring, Luke Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Danny Howes, goalkeeper Chris Snaith, Brett Lovell and Tom Cadzow.

Penistone have had to rebuild though as players such as Tom Brennan (Brighouse Town), Kieran Ryan (Brighouse Town), Nathan Keightley (Tadcaster Albion), Jordan Coduri (Ossett United), Sam Scrivens (Chestefield trialist) and Conor Glavin (AFC Emley) have left.
