Simon Houghton believes Calum Ward is the final piece of the jigsaw as Nostell Miners Welfare prepare for the opening day of the Toolstation NCEL Division One season.
The former Garforth Town, Tadcaster Albion, Selby Town and Worksop Town striker has signed – ending Houghton and Jason Dodsworth’s pursuit for a new frontman.
Ward has played in Nostell’s last two pre-season friendlies – the defeats to Stocksbridge Park Steels and Garforth Town.
“As we’ve seen in the last two games, his hold-up play is excellent,” Houghton told Non League Yorkshire.
“He gets in front of people and he can take pressure off a team. He does the ugly side well.
“If he can’t win the ball, he’ll still put his body there. He’s really good with what he does and I think he’ll be an asset.
“He’s scored a lot of goals in the past and with the amount of chances we create, we think he is the man to put them away.”
