Early goals concern joint boss Ashforth

Campion joint manager Lee Ashforth

Campion’s run of conceding early goals does concern joint manager Lee Ashforth.

For the third Toolstation NCEL Division One game running, the Bradford-based outfit conceded in the opening exchanges.

in the Harrogate Railway and Brigg Town matches, Campion turned around the deficit(s) to draw, but against Nostell Miners Welfare they were beaten 4-1.

“Barring the FA Cup game, we have conceded within eleven minutes in each game,” Ashforth told Non League Yorkshire.

“That’s something we need to address because we’re chasing games. When you go away I always say that the first 15 minutes is important and you don’t concede or you’re in for a difficult afternoon.

“Conceding early at Harrogate and again here at Nostell, it gives you an uphill task.

“As for the Brigg game, you say against Brigg we were lucky to get a point, we actually dominated the game.

“In the end scoring so late you have to be happy with a point. But we created chance after chance in that game and we felt we should have won it. That’s when luck is against you.

“Yeah, it hasn’t been a good start, especially with all the injuries we have picked up. I don’t think things are wrong though.

“Last year people probably under-estimated Campion and this year it is a scalp. I’ve said that to the players that this season is going to be harder than the last one.

“It is hard to keep that momentum so we need to up our game another 20%.”

The defeat at Nostell was all sown-up by the hour mark as the hosts had moved into a 3-1 lead and Campion skipper Graham Hall had been carried off.

“It is throughly disappointing, we didn’t play well and we deserved to be beaten,” he said.

“Certainly in the second half we looked like we gave it up a little bit. Losing Graham was a blow as he is fantastic at the back and he leads us so we had no height at the back.

“At that point the game had gone though, it was then a case of damage-limitation.

“Nostell are a good side. They were bit unfortunate against Stockton last week so we knew it was going to be a tough test and we have a few injuries which are causing us problems in certain areas of the pitch.”
