Luke Mangham got two as Stocksbridge Park Steels enjoyed an incredible start to the BetVictor South East season with a 4-0 victory at Kidsgrove Athletic.
It was dream day for Chris Hilton, who admitted in pre-season that last season really took its toll on him. Mangham, club stalwart Scott Ruthven and Lewis Whitham got the goals.
Literally six minutes was it all took for Ruthven to escape the Kidsgrove defenders and score.
In fairness to Kidsgrove, it wasn’t until the final 15 minutes that the Steels turned the screw and Mangham doubled their lead.
After breaking clear for his first goal, Mangham did the same for his second 60 seconds later.
Kidsgrove had collapsed and Whitham’s shot from a tricky angle completed the rout.
Frickley Athletic lost 3-0 at home to Chasetown. The defeat was compounded by the late dismissal of captain Jacob Hazel.
