Super ‘Sedge go top of the table with win at Garforth

Jonathan Rimmington hailed his Liversedge players after watching them win 3-1 at Garforth Town to go top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division table.

Ollie Fearon’s third minute tap-in was cancelled out by Garforth’s Sean Hunter in the 50th minute, but goals from Shane Hamilton and Jake Thompson secured the points for ‘Sedge.

“I thought in the first 25 minutes I thought we were going to run away with it if I’m being honest,” Rimmington told Non League Yorkshire.

“I thought we were going to win by three or four, but we started panicking when there was no need.

“Maybe I was dragging people in from wide areas into central areas to stop Garforth’s number four getting on the ball? But that was only for ten minutes of the first half.

“But the goal we conceded, well…it came from nowhere. Throughout the game I felt they played a lot in front of us, but never caused us too many problems.

“Priestley was quiet, as were their frontmen and I didn’t think we had anything to fear. Mark Simpson usually gets into good areas, good spaces, tonight our backline were really tight and they never let anything go in behind. They were good all night.

“I know it took a set-piece to get us back in front, but I thought we should have scored a few more goals.

“I thought we deserved to win, everyone here tonight will probably say the same. I thought we dominated it from start to finish.”

Fearon fired ‘Sedge ahead after pouncing on the rebound from Red Bates’ saved effort.

Liversedge were comfortable, but Garforth fought back with Hunter’s looping header somehow finding its way into the net.

Eventually ‘Sedge regained the lead. A long throw was dealt with and Hamilton headed home from close range.

Young midfielder Thompson then completed a counter-attack with a very cool and composed finish.
