Hemsworth Miners Welfare 5-2 Bottesford Town
Declan Parker scored twice as a devastating first half attacking returned Hemsworth Miners Welfare to winning ways after two consecutive defeats in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.
Parker, Seon Ripley, Jay Davis secured an unassailable 4-1 half-time lead for Hemsworth, whose rout was completed by Sidney Santos three minutes after the break.
Wayne Benn’s men needed a result of some kind after stop-start three weeks which has seen them play just twice in 23 days prior to the visit of Bottesford.
The Wells enjoyed the perfect start too. Ripley was flattened by Bottesford’s goalkeeper after just 50 seconds and Parker fired the penalty low into the left-hand bottom corner.
However, instead of kicking on, Hemsworth allowed Bottesford back into it. Mason Ellender headed home and that triggered a period of pressure from the visitors – leading to a couple of lucky escapes.
But for all their efforts, Bottesford were undone by attacking play synonymous of the Benn era at Hemsworth. New Wells hero Matty Hughes carved Bottesford open down the right and he crossed to where was Ripley was waiting to fire the ball into the roof of the net with one killer touch.
Hughes was involved again for the third. A cross again from the right had Bottesford at sixes and sevens and nobody had picked up Parker who stroked the ball from close range.
Once as former Garforth Town playmaker Davis struck a long range thunderbolt to add the fourth, it was game over.
The relentless charge towards the Bottesford continued straight after the interval. Santos charged down the left and he sent the ball crashing into the net.
Bottesford were reduced to ten men after a terrible challenge on Hughes and that took the sting out of the game, with the visitors cutting their losses by literally sitting back and defending.
Robbie Learning reduced the deficit with the last kick of the game after somehow going on an incredible run from the halfway line.
