Red hot Campion catapulted themselves into fourth place in the Toolstation NCEL Division One table with a sixth straight league win – a 4-1 success at home to Armthorpe Welfare.
Lee Ashforth and James Bicknell’s exciting side have overcome an injury-hit start to the season to be flying high at the beginning of October.
The pair have developed an ‘on the front foot style of football’ and it is working to great effect. Campion were three goals to the good by the half-time. But they were fortunate as Armthorpe had really taken the game to Campion and somehow didn’t score prior to Jason Carney’s opener.
His 18 yard shot deflected past the wrong-footed Alfie Stevens-Neale and into the net.
The game turned on its head and when Craig Aspinall’s attempted clearance from a cross from the left fell kindly for Alex Cusack to blast past a stranded Stevens-Neale to make it 2-0, it was a long way back for Armthorpe.
The game was seemingly all but over on 39 minutes when a deep corner was headed back into the danger area for Andrew McCreadie to turn and hook the ball just inside the left hand post.
Campion added their fourth with Myles Foley’s header on the hour.
