Debacle as Ferriby game abandoned in 92nd minute

Lights out at Ollerton Town where North Ferriby were winning 3-1

Victory was snatched out of the hands of North Ferriby as their trip to Ollerton Town turned into a debacle as the Toolstation NCEL Division One clash was abandoned in the 92nd minute.

Ferriby were leading 3-1 when the floodlights went out, bringing an end to proceedings. The result will surely stand as 90 minutes were played, and questions are likely to be asked of the referee as to why he did not just blow for full-time.

Bizarrely it is the second Saturday running that Ferriby have had a game abandoned because of floodlight failure.

Clearly games such as Worsbrough Bridge versus Hallam in September had to be replayed as less than an hour was played.

There is precedent for the result to stand as Knaresborough Town’s draw with Winterton Rangers stood in 2015. The game was in second half added time when a full-blown ruckus broke out – with the referee choosing to abandon the game.

There are other examples of games being finished despite floodlight failure. The lights once failed at Curzon Ashton with six minutes to, with one team leading 4-0. The referee kept the teams on the field and let the clock reach 90 – both teams literally just passed the ball to each other.
