Paul Marshall admitted that Garforth Town were fortunate to beat Bottesford Town in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division clash.
Garforth held in a very nervy final ten minutes to win 2-1 after spending almost the entire second half in their own half. Marshall, in his first home game in charge, had led 2-0 at the break through Dan Coupland and Lee Turner.
“It was the worst we have played since we have been here,” Marshall told Non League Yorkshire.
“I’m pleasantly surprised to have taken the three points because I thought in the last ten minutes Bottesford deserved another goal. They were the better team.
“We were hanging on at the end. They had the momentum and it is hard to get it back when you lose momentum.
“We did alright in the first half, but for the second half I’d said ‘look let’s try and play a little more’. We ended up going backwards and regressing. They’ve had all the ball in the second half and we just defended.
“We got deeper and deeper and it never stuck up top. It kept coming back too quickly. It was a tough game.
“Bottesford are in a false position. They have got good forwards. The number four was outstanding at the back for them.”
