Luke Stewart scored twice as Penistone Church took advantage of leaders Staveley Miners Welfare’s surprise slip-up by closing the gap to three points with the 3-1 win over Bottesford Town.
But Staveley, who lost at Barton still have three Toolstation NCEL Premier Division games-in-hand and remain in the driving seat for the title.
Ian Richards’ Church made mincemeat of Bottesford and Andy Ring and Stewart both struck in the opening half-hour which also saw Nathan Keightley blaze a penalty over the crossbar. Ewen Train’s second half goal was mere consolation for Bottesford.
Penistone also had a further late penalty ruled out because of encroachment.
Yorkshire Amateur remain in third as they beat Goole AFC 2-0 through Ash Flynn and Aiden Savory’s goals.
Maltby Main enjoyed an impressive 4-1 success over Hemsworth Miners Welfare whose promotion bid is fading. Jonathan Hill (2), Sam Liversidge and Rory Coleman scored. Goalkeeper James Pollard’s own goal was gifted to Hemsworth.
Alex Burton’s early double continued Garforth Town’s good form in the 2-1 win at the expense of Eccleshill United. Ibrahim Najeh scored a last minute consolation for Eccleshill.
Jack Carr’s double and a rare Rob Youhill rare header enabled Knaresborough Town to beat Grimsby Borough 3-0.
