Athersley boss Kelsey makes double swoop

Athersley Rec bos Shane Kelsey has signed a goalkeeper and defender.

Seventeen-year-old goalkeeper Charlie Farrar, who has just left Rotherham United, arrives, along with centre-back James Morris.

Moore has been out in the United States for five years, but played over there for Culver-Stockton College and St Louis-Lions.

“I’m delighted to have both onboard in key positions left void with Jack Shephard and Chris Snaith returning to Penistone,” Kelsey said.

“Both have shown great attitude in training and more important have integrated into group with ease. Both at good at a good age and ticks all the boxes in what we had a club are looking for. 

“Even at his young age Charlie has played reserve football at Rotherham United before a broken ankle put the breaks on his progressions.

“He comes to us looking to get back up and running and what I have said to him is use his release from Rotherham has motivation to prove people wrong and find your way back into the professional game. He has time on his hands which his age and I look forward to working with him. 

“James returns to the UK having been out in the states studying and playing for best part of five years. He is tall and athletic and with his age will be a great role model for the youngsters at the club to learn from. 

“Other clubs were looking at both lads and I’m grateful to both for giving me the opportunity to work with them.”
