Turnbull and Heeley commit to Pickering

Matty Turnbull and Iwan Heeley have re-signed for Pickering Town, softening the blow of losing long-serving Niall Tilsley.

Powerful centre-back Turnbull has been around Pickering on-and-off for a few years, while Heeley, the former Pontefract Collieries and Brighouse Town versatile player, joined last season.

Steve Roberts told Pickering’s website: “It is great news that Matty has committed to us for the coming season.

“He is one of the players who I really wanted to retain, not only is Matty a very strong defender, but he can also be a threat from set pieces in the attacking third.

“He has the club at heart and I want people like him at the club to help move the club forward in the next few seasons.

“Iwan is a great lad to have at the club. To get his commitment for next season is fantastic news. He can play a number of positions and his understanding of the game is brilliant .

“But I feel his strength is in central midfield and he has a great strike on him, which he showed last season. He is a very good player to have at Pickering.”
