A number of Yorkshire clubs began playing matches again on Saturday after a series of pre-season friendlies were held.
Nearly all were played behind closed doors – with Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior League side Wombwell Town’s 2-0 defeat to Belper Town one of the few exceptions due to different rules applying to some venues and clubs.
The first which kicked off was the 4-4 draw between Yorkshire Amateur and new-look Nostell Miners Welfare at 1pm.
Presumably because of large squads, four 30 minute halves were played. The Ammers raced into a three-goal lead through Casey Stewart, Ash Flynn and an own goal.
Striker Ashley Austin pulled a goal back in the third stanza before Harrison Blakey restored the three goal advantage. In the final 30 minutes, Brett Smith (pen), Harvey Booth and Amir Berchill (pen) dragged Nostell level.
Jack Watson scored the winner as Rossington Main won 3-2 at Pontefract Collieries, who were managed by Andy Monkhouse for the first time.
Rossington had surrendered a 2-0 lead, given to them by Jordan Buckham and Monosse Kianga, before Watson hit the decisive goal.
A large Harrogate Railway squad were beaten 2-1 at Boroughbridge, while Goole AFC were held to a 1-1 draw at East Hull.
