Davis stars as Hemsworth defeat NPL heavyweights Belper

Jay Davis played key role in Hemsworth’s victory

Silas Valladolid-Collins hit the winner as Hemsworth Miners Welfare impressively defeated NPL heavyweights Belper Town.

Collins fired home the rebound from Jay Davis’ effort on the hour mark as the Wells beat former Ossett Town manager Grant Black’s all singing and dancing side 2-1 in Fitzwilliam.

If this result doesn’t end fears Hemsworth will struggle following the departure of several key players two months ago, nothing will.

The Wells went straight at their visitors, a leading side in the NPL Division One South East, from the start. The danger man Davis had already gone close before he found the top corner in the 14th minute.

Collins got the decisive goal in the second half and even though ex-Stocksbridge Park Steels attack Brodie Litchfield quickly brought Belper back into it, Luke Danville and Luke Potter’s hung on.

Bridlington Town battered North Ferriby 5-0 in the other stand-out result. Danny Earl (2), Chris Jenkinson, Billy Logan and Alex Stock led the charge.

Damian Reeves’ bullet header in the dying minutes saw Pontefract Collieries complete a comeback in the 2-1 win at Selby Town.

Reeves’ successful leap came minutes after Albert Ibrahimi had carved out the equaliser – cancelling Josh Street’s close range opener for Selby.

Toby Harris’ secured a 3-3 draw for Knaresborough Town in the see-saw battle with Tadcaster Albion.

Brad Walker gave Paul Stansfield’s men an early lead before Ify Ofoegbu and Bailey Thompson put Taddy ahead.

Tom Dugdale equalised straight after the break, but Juayd Cassius-Gill restored Tad’s lead on the hour. It lasted a minute as Harris struck.

Thackley raced into an early 2-0 lead through Jack Normanton and Ben Grech-Brooksbank, but Emley hit back to draw 2-2.

Bizarrely an Emley side at Penistone Church suffered the same fate. They stormed into the lead with Luke Cranswick and Adam Haw scoring. However, Sam Scrivens and Charlie Baird pegged them back in the 2-2 stalemate.

Second half strikes from Elliott Harrison and Seon Ripley earned Ossett United a 3-1 win at Athersley Rec. Lee Garside had earlier cancelled out Tom Greaves’ opener.

Sam Denton was Garforth Town’s goal-scorer in the 1-1 draw with Glasshoughton Welfare.

Liversedge hammered Horsforth St Margaret’s in a 8-0 – Nicky Boshell (2), Carl Stewart (2), Ollie Fearon, Alfie Raw, Paul Walker and Joe Gaughan found the net.

Adam Shaw hit a hat-trick as Harrogate Railway went two better by putting ten past Sherburn White Rose without reply.

Steve Bromley and a trlalist got doubles. Fraser Lancaster, Danny Ward and Aodhan Brownlee also scored.

Chris Wademan scored in Silsden’s 2-1 defeat to Clitheroe and Rossington Main lost 1-0 to Grantham Town.
